Glossary

The technical terms of this documentation, sorted alphabetically, with the German equivalent. Product terms such as Story, Epic or Iteration stay English in German, while the state names in the German interface are Idee, Entwurf, Bereit, Zu erledigen, In Arbeit and Erledigt.

GermanEnglishExplanation
Automatische SchätzungAutomatic estimateThe provisional value every user story without its own estimation gets: the median of all estimations in the project, marked with ≈ in the interface. You can override it at any time.
BacklogBacklogAll stories that are not yet built, ordered by state and priority. You maintain it in Prepare as Kanban or List.
BucketBucketA thematic package of stories for joint planning, just a name without date or status. A story belongs to at most one bucket.
BuildBuildNavigation phase where the team delivers the work in iterations (Iteration Board, Iterations).
AbgebrochenCanceledA story that was closed without ever reaching Done. It delivers no points.
Cycle TimeCycle TimeHow long the actual building takes: from Doing to Done.
DeliveryDeliverySecond phase of a story (how do we build it?) with the states Todo, Doing and Done.
AbhängigkeitDependencyA relationship in which one ticket blocks another and enforces an order.
Dev-StoryDev StoryA technical story without user value, without story points, without an epic.
DiscoveryDiscoveryFirst phase of a story (what do we build?) with the states Idea, Draft and Ready.
In ArbeitDoingState: work is in progress.
ErledigtDoneState: the work is finished. The story only counts toward velocity once it is also closed.
EntwurfDraftState: details and requirements are being refined.
EpicEpicA sub-goal of an initiative; a step users take toward the goal.
SchätzungEstimationThe story points you give a user story. Workitems have no estimation.
Globale PrioritätGlobal priorityThe ranking of all stories in the project: the further along the state, the higher the priority (stop starting, start finishing). Within a state, the order in the backlog decides. The order in the storyboard is not part of it.
GastGuestAn entry without a login, just a name, that accesses individual projects through share links. Takes up a seat.
IdeeIdeaState: captured but not yet picked up. One sentence is enough.
InitiativeInitiativeA large goal that sets direction.
InsightsInsightsNavigation phase with the analyses: Timeline, Progress and Flow.
IterationIterationA fixed period the team commits work to.
Iteration BoardIteration BoardView in Build: the board of the active iteration with the delivery and discovery tracks and the workitems.
KanbanKanbanView in Prepare: every state is a column, and you drag stories between columns.
Lead TimeLead TimeHow long a ticket spent in a state, from the timestamps per state. In Flow: from Todo until closed.
MCPMCPModel Context Protocol: the interface through which an AI assistant works with Betterplan on your behalf.
Offen / GeschlossenOpen / ClosedA second status, independent of the state: closed means delivered and accepted, or deliberately dropped.
OrbitOrbitA second view of the storyboard built for storytelling: from the product vision down to the stories of a single epic.
OrganisationOrganizationThe account that owns members, teams, guests and the subscription.
ParentParentThe ticket above in the hierarchy (the Parent field). A ticket's type follows its parent.
PhasePhaseBetterplan has two kinds: the four phases of the navigation (Scope, Prepare, Build, Insights) and the two phases in the life of a story (Discovery and Delivery).
PreparePrepareNavigation phase where you refine, prioritize and estimate stories (Kanban, List, Estimation view).
Projekt-StoryProject StoryAn organizational story without user value, without story points, without an epic.
Rapid EstimationRapid estimationQuick estimation: Betterplan extrapolates the size of the backlog from a few estimates.
BereitReadyState: discovery is complete, the story is clear enough to be built.
Referenz (Verweis)Reference (link)A plain pointer from one ticket to another, for example via # in the description. It enforces no order.
Referenz-Epic / Referenz-InitiativeReference epic / reference initiativeAn epic (or initiative) marked with the Reference switch whose stories are fully estimated. It sets the state Ready and defines the extrapolation factor. There is only one per level.
ReleaseReleaseA milestone and swimlane in the storyboard.
ReworkReworkStory points that went into corrections after delivery (the Rework field). The value is added up, never replaced.
RoadmapRoadmapGoal-oriented roadmap: every release is a goal, and the stories behind it hang off it.
S2E-Faktor / E2I-FaktorS2E factor / E2I factorRapid estimation factors: story points per epic point (Story to Epic) and epic points per initiative point (Epic to Initiative), computed from the reference epic or reference initiative.
ScopeScopeNavigation phase where you structure your plan with Storyboard, Roadmap and Orbit. Also the word for everything that is meant to be built.
PlatzSeatA license seat in the organization. Whoever has a seat can create and edit projects.
FreigabelinkShare linkA link that gives a person outside the organization access to a single project, without an account or login.
SnapshotSnapshotThe recorded state of an iteration when it is completed. Velocity and Insights read the history from it.
StakeholderStakeholderA person with an interest in the project who stays informed through Insights or a share link.
StoryStoryA concrete, buildable piece of work (user, project or devteam story).
Story PointStory pointA relative unit for the size of a story, with no time unit. The scale: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 60, 100.
StoryboardStoryboardView in the Scope phase: the story map of initiatives, epics and stories, with releases as swimlanes.
SwimlaneSwimlaneA horizontal row in the storyboard. Every release is a swimlane.
TagTagYour own keyword on a ticket. You can filter by it.
TeamTeamA group that sees and edits projects. Personal (automatic, only you) or shared. Roles: Owner, Admin, Member.
ThroughputThroughputHow many stories get finished per iteration, without any estimate.
TimelineTimelineView in Insights: releases and iterations on a time axis, with forecast and date conflicts.
Zu erledigenTodoState: planned but not started. From here the team has committed (the commitment point).
User StoryUser StoryA story with user value. Only it has story points and counts toward velocity.
VelocityVelocityThe story points the team typically delivers per iteration: the average of the last three completed iterations.
WorkitemWorkitemThe smallest unit for coordinating delivery on the iteration board.
WorkspaceWorkspaceYour working area in Betterplan: the organization with its teams, projects and members.
