The building blocks
Betterplan has only a few building blocks, but they are clearly separated. Two of them give structure (Initiative and Epic), the others are work that actually gets built (Story and Workitem). Once you have internalized this split, every piece of work has an obvious place.
Story types
Not all work creates direct value for customers, yet it still deserves to be visible. That is why Betterplan distinguishes three kinds of Stories. All of them go through the same states, but they differ in perspective and in what they contribute to planning.
States
A Story goes through exactly six states in Betterplan, no more. That is deliberate: too many intermediate stops such as "In review" or "Ready to deploy" hide unfinished work and tempt you to start new things instead of finishing existing ones. Betterplan follows the principle Stop starting, start finishing.
Open and Closed
Besides the six states, every Story has a second, independent status
Discovery and Delivery
In many teams, the same requirement turns into two tickets Discovery and Delivery belong in one Story.
Estimation basics
Betterplan estimates the size of a Story in Story Points. This chapter explains the principle. Estimating in the interface itself is described in Estimating.
