Access and interface
Why don't I see view X?
Betterplan enables some views and features gradually (early access). If a view described in this documentation is missing for you, it isn't active for your workspace yet. Some pages carry the note Early access at the top. See The interface at a glance.
Why don't the shortcut numbers match what I see?
The digits follow the visible phases and views. If a view is missing in your workspace, the numbers shift. The expanded navigation shows the current ones. See Keyboard and shortcuts and the shortcut overview.
How do I find a specific ticket?
Open the command palette with ⌘+K (Windows and Linux: Ctrl+K) and type part of the title or the number, for example #39. See Search and command palette.
Where are the project settings?
Through the command palette: Open Settings. See Search and command palette and General project settings.
Why are tickets missing from a view?
A filter is probably active. A number on the filter icon at the top right shows how many filters are set. See Filters.
Sample project and data
How do I import QuickCart?
Download the ZIP package and choose Import Project in the project list. See The QuickCart sample project.
How do I back up or export a project?
In the project list, through the menu on the project card, entry Export.... Betterplan downloads a ZIP file. See Exporting, importing and deleting a project.
How do I use a project as a template?
Export it with Export as template and import the file as a new project. See Exporting, importing and deleting a project.
Planning and working
How do I assign a story to an iteration?
You plan iterations on the Iteration Board; the detail view has no field for it. See Iteration Board and Ticket properties.
What is the difference between Done and Closed?
Done is a state and says the work is finished. Closed is a separate status and says the result was accepted. See Open and closed.
Why don't a story's points count toward velocity?
Only user stories that are Done and Closed count. A story that is done but still open does not count, and Dev and Project stories have no story points. See Estimation basics and Iterations.
Why does my workitem have no estimation?
Story points exist for user stories only. See Story types.
Do I have to estimate every Story?
No. Betterplan automatically counts every User Story without an estimate of its own with the median of the existing estimates, recognizable by the ≈ on the card. Estimate Stories as they mature, not in advance. See Automatic estimates.
Does the order in the Storyboard determine priority?
No. The Storyboard arranges the story of your undertaking and helps with the first prioritization. Priority follows maturity: whatever is further along comes first (stop starting, start finishing), and within a state the order in the Backlog decides. See Prioritizing.
Why does a filter change some views but not others?
The filter acts on the Storyboard, Orbit, the Backlog, the Iteration Board, Progress, Flow and the Estimation Widget. The Roadmap, the Delivery Timeline and the Iterations overview always show the whole project. See Filters.
How do I report a defect?
A bug is a workitem with the bug marker set, under the affected story. See Bugs.
Do I have to use Scrum?
No. Betterplan uses a few terms such as iteration and velocity; you set the length of an iteration in the project settings (1 to 8 weeks, 2 by default). See Team: velocity, iteration length and costs.
Collaboration and account
How do I give insight to someone outside the team?
With a share link for a guest, without an account or login. See Involving stakeholders and Sharing.
How do I invite colleagues?
In the organization's member management. Whoever has a seat can edit; without a seat there is read-only access. See Members and Teams and roles.
What does Betterplan cost, and how long is the trial?
There is one plan: 29 € per month plus VAT with one seat, each additional seat costs 10 € per month. Anyone who only needs to read does not need a seat. The trial lasts 30 days by default. See Subscription and trial.
Can I use Betterplan with an AI assistant?
Yes, through the MCP server, provided the feature is enabled for your account. See MCP server and AI agents.
